Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was released in Japan on November 21, 1992 and in North American and European markets on November 24 the same year. Did you know that Sonic 2 is the reason why most games are released on a Tuesday? Yup, to promote the sequel's North American debut, the marketing team decided they needed a date to promote the release date,and decided on Tuesday,get it? "Sonic 2sday!" Back then games didn't have an organized release schedule, often appearing at different retailers on different days. By knowing when the game would arrive at retail, Sega was able to turn the game’s release into an event, a plan that would be soon be emulated in countless midnight launches.
